I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn off the water at the nearest location or at the mains valve outside. If you cannot find the main isolation valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that’s done, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you promptly to fix the leak.

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any important possessions from the area, and mop up any water or position a container to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
